The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the family of a female cyclist who was struck by a vehicle will receive a $2.5 million settlement from the motorist’s insurance carrier. The family’s attorney believed the settlement to be “unusually high” considering the cyclist was 25 with no dependents. The family will use the settlement to establish a memorial scholarship at the University of Utah where she was a second-year graduate student at the time of her death.

This is a reminder that when biking, always wear a helmut and be aware of your surroundings.
